You can find everything at BHV

BVH is a department store located opposite the town hall, a 15-minute walk from the Louvre. The wide variety of items offered will meet most of your needs. This large-scale department store is developing good-quality sales areas in the heart of the Marais, one of the most beautiful and typical districts of the capital.

Extension work – October 1913

Officially founded in 1856 by Xavier Ruel, the store was a hosiery counter and occupied a small facade on rue de Rivoli, which was then named “Bazar Napoleon” following a rather incredible event;

in 1855 when the carriage of the Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, passed in front of the modest store of Xavier Ruel, the horses started to run out of control. The trader threw himself at the head of the yoke and managed to control it.

For his heroic act Xavier Ruel received a mighty sum, which would allow him to expand his store.

In 1866 the store took the name of Bazar de l’hôtel de ville.

When Xavier Ruel died, the store was taken over by his grandson who would undertake substantive construction works in 1913 and then expand his offer of fashion items.

Today, the “BHV Marais” covers 31000 m² plus a second 4000 m² building dedicated to men.

The smallest and only “true” Paris department store

Today, BHV is the smallest of the Parisian department stores and the only one offering a real diversity of well stocked articles. Though BHV develops brand “corners” like its competitors, it stands out because its departments are not just a succession of spaces rented by brands and because it still retains a wide variety of offerings.

Indeed, like other Parisian department stores, BHV offers a fairly developed range of Home & Leisure items but the great specificity of this store is its DIY space, which is a unique concept in France, where you can find articles in bulk and a very strong sales advice service. If you are looking for the one piece you can’t find anywhere else, why not try your luck.

Products distributed in the main store:

  • Home (from the 3rd to 5th floor): Lighting, culinary, linens, tableware, bedding, appliances, furniture
  • DIY (basement): paints, pharmaceutical products, hardware, taps, plumbing, electricity, cabinet making, tools…
  • Fashion (ground floor, 1st floor and 5th floor): beauty & fragrances, woman, child & baby
  • Leisure (2nd floor): Multimedia, fine arts, painting, brushes, drawing, gift ideas, Animals

Products sold in the men’s store: Everything for men; fragrances, leather goods, fashion, shoes…

The new Eataly store: Catering and food products

The BHV is preparing the opening of an Eataly store over 4000 m², behind the BHV Marais which will be launched in the first quarter of 2019. The BHV has signed an operating agreement with this Italian concept of catering and food products. We will go into details later…
